RECALIBRATION 8 - Menorah

RECALIBRATION 8

Christ centeredness is the only civilization that can sustain and shield our generation from veering off from the path of spiritual progress and for this cause we Labour.

God instructed Moses after an interaction with heaven to build a tabernacle according to the pattern shown him on the mount principally for the purpose of interaction however the construction of this tabernacle is to be sectionalised into three layers. (Hebrews 9)

These compartments includes the outer court, inner court and Holy of holies. The burden tonight is to show us how the rituals that goes on at the outer court into the most holy depicts a typology of the finished work of Christ. This tabernacle has ministers who does the service of the temple, they are called the priests. The priests had access into the holy place where we have the table of shewbread, menorah lampstand and the altar of incense.

At the outer court there are two article of furnitures which are the brazen altar and the brazen laver but the one we are going to explore today is the rituals that happens on the brazen altar( altar of sacrifice). The day of atonement which is Yom Kippur in the Jewish culture, this is the period of the year that the high priest gains access into the most holy place just once yearly but his ascendancy into that place is not without blood.

The day of atonement is when the sins of the whole Israelites is atoned for so they bring two goats, one of the goats is for sin offering while the other goat is the scapegoat( see Lev 16). The high priest cast lots on the two goats to know which of the goats would be used for sin offering and scape goat eventually after casting lot one of the goats is slaughtered on the brazen altar at the outer court and the high priest takes the blood of this animal straight into the most holy place and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat for the atonement of sin in order for them to be accepted by God but mind you the high priest atoned for his own sin and that of the whole Israel while the other scape goat the high priest lays his two hands on it and confess the sin of the whole nation of Israel on the goat and the goat is taken into a thick wilderness where it must experience death.

These experiences typifies the finished work of Christ Jesus, he became our sin offering the bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who knew no sin became sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God. Jesus was also our scapegoat who took away our sin, Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the whole world( John 1:29). Do you remember that when the animal is slaughtered the high priest takes the blood into the most holy place to present the blood on the lid of the mercy seat? in the same vein, Jesus after his death and resurrection went to present his blood before the father but this time around not in the earthly tabernacle but the heavenly tabernacle that was why when he resurrected and Mary went to his sepulchre she could not find him but saw a man which she taught was a gardener and demanded for her Lord until the man called her name Mary and she screamed Rabboni wanting to touch him but Jesus said do not touch me because I'm yet to present my blood before my father in heaven. (John 20)
